save our v.a.
The privatization of veteran healthcare is already underway.
Through policies like the VA MISSION Act of 2018 and the expansion of the Community Care Program (CCP), more veterans are being pushed into private-sector healthcare while the VA itself faces staffing cuts and declining support.
As more funding is redirected outside the VA:
Staffing shortages continue to grow
Veterans lose access to coordinated, veteran-specific care
Medical records become fragmented
Research tied to military toxic exposure and long-term veteran health suffers
Private healthcare corporations profit while the public VA system is weakened
The result is a slow dismantling of a healthcare system built specifically for veterans.
VFP's Save Our VA (SOVA) National Campaign works to defend and strengthen the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and oppose the ongoing privatization of veteran healthcare.
SOVA organizes veterans, healthcare workers, and supporters across the country to educate the public, monitor legislation, contact Congress, and advocate for a fully funded public VA healthcare system.
SOVA works alongside organizations including:
American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), National Nurses United (NNU),
National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE), and Veterans Healthcare Policy Institute
will veteran healthcare remain a public service or become another corporate revenue stream?
What Is Happening?
The VA serves more than 9 million veterans through over 1,200 facilities nationwide and fulfills four major missions:
Healthcare
- Providing holistic medical, psychological, and social care tailored to veterans.
Education
- Training much of the nation’s healthcare workforce, including doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers.
Research
- Conducting major medical research that has contributed to advancements including prosthetics, PTSD treatment, spinal cord injury care, and the nicotine patch.
National Preparedness
- Supporting the country during national emergencies and public health crises.
Studies have repeatedly shown that VA care performs as well as or better than private-sector healthcare in many areas, particularly for veteran-specific care.
